The A12 was closed for more than five hours today after a serious gas leak at Wangford.
Suffolk police had a 60m cordon in place around the affected gas main from 12.30pm, before the A12 was reopened at around 5pm.
Suffolk firefighters also left the site of a serious gas leak at Wangford at 2.20pm after two hours, following advice from gas suppliers Cadent.
A Cadent spokeswoman said: “We were called out to the A12 earlier today [Tuesday, May 25] due to reports of a gas escape.
“Engineers are working to repair the pipe as quickly as possible and the road has been closed in both directions for safety reasons.
"There is no impact to gas supply in the area."
In total, six fire crews from across north and east Suffolk attended the scene, with a Suffolk Fire and Rescue spokesman saying there were no evacuations to any of the homes in the area.
