A Suffolk man has been charged after a woman was allegedly strangled and a car was stolen.
The incident happened on Sunday, June 19, at an address in Beccles where a man was then arrested and taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.
Paul Whall, 29, of Newsons Avenue, was charged on Monday, June 20, with assault, intentional strangulation and controlling or coercive behaviour on a woman.
He was also charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.
He was remanded to appear before Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 21, and further remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday, July 19.
It is the first case of a charge by strangulation by Suffolk police under new legislation that went live on June 7 and relates to Section 75 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
