A Norfolk village primary school is looking to expand its outdoor play area by setting up a fundraising campaign.

Thurton Primary School, near Loddon, has started a GoFundMe for an enhanced “sports multi-use games area” and a small forest school area.

The target for the fundraiser is £3,000.

Jonathan Barber, headteacher of the school, says on the GoFundMe that while the school has an all-weather multi-sports pitch, “its current size does restrict the number of pupils allowed to use it at playtimes/lunchtimes and for after school clubs".

He added: “We are hoping to raise much-needed funds to increase our current sports multi-use games area enabling more children to have access and to further support the teaching of PE all year round.”

The fundraiser is also set to develop a small wildlife and forest school area, to offset the environmental impact of expanding the games area.

Mr Barber said: “Our plan is to enlarge our wildlife area in order to make it more wildlife friendly and increase habitats which will enable nature to thrive”.

The project for the nature area has been selected for the Beccles Tesco Community Grants blue token scheme.
