From hair of the dog to hair of the bone.
A Beccles pub has been taken over by skeletons behind and in front of the bar as it resurrects an annual Halloween tradition
For the eighth year in a row, The Ingate pub is gearing up for Halloween by having bony characters enjoying pints and a chat in its beer garden.
Michelle Payne, landlady of The Ingate, said: “We have been putting them out every year for the last eight years.

“I hear the children go past with their parents on the way to school say ‘the skeletons are back’ and they get so excited."
They have been scattered around the building to promote a Halloween children’s party on October 31.
Mrs Payne said the inspiration came from Halloween parties she held for her children at home, instead of trick-or-treating, before she became landlady for The Ingate.
She said the parties are “a lot warmer and safer for the children".
Mrs Payne added: “It is nice for them to see other children’s costumes and it feels a lot more together.”

The party will take place for an hour between 6.30pm to 7.30pm and will involve a disco, soft drinks, and goody bags.
There is no admission fee to the spooky event.
“It is a nice and warm atmosphere,” Mrs Payne added.
She will also be returning as her other self “Miss Hell” for another year, where she will “dress up and greet the children".
The name “stuck” after a group of children at Brownies called her Miss Hell instead of Michelle in her previous role at an art gallery.

Mrs Payne took over The Ingate as a first-time landlady in 2016 with her husband, Trevor Payne.
In 2021, they were named as the Beccles and Bungay Journal's pub landlords of the year.
