A new bar has been given the green light to replace a former shoe shop in the heart of Beccles.

The Printing Press Bar will open in the property previously occupied by the Lollipop shop, which closed earlier this year, after East Suffolk Council granted permission for the change of use.

The planning application was submitted by Jacob Oddy, who runs Old School Coffee, the cafe a few doors down on Newgate.

The former shoe shop part of Grade-II listed building and dates back to 1837.

It was built as a school which closed in 1868.

The former school complex now also houses Old School Coffee, as well as Tanya's Beauty Salon.

The planning documents state the bar will be open between 11am to 11pm every day including Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Lollipop closed in April when the owner decided to move on after 17 years.

Mr Oddy and co-owner Archie Jones took over Quaff East coffee shop last year, before rebranding the business to Old School Coffee.

Mr Oddy said at the time: "With our rebranding we decided on the name Old School to tie in with the history of the building.”
