Suffolk's most dangerous roads for speeding have been revealed by new data. 

A freedom of information request submitted to Suffolk Police by Legal Expert has revealed that the A14 was the worst road for speeding between April 2023 and April 2024. 

During the 12-month period a total of 12,652 speeding drivers were caught on the A14 by Suffolk police. 

The A12 had the second most speeding drivers with 4,390 caught going faster than the speed limit.

The third highest recorded road for speeding offences was the A11 with 2,874.

The A140 which runs from Needham Market all the way to Cromer in Norfolk was had the fourth highest number of speeding offences with 2047.

There was a range of A and B roads on the list with the B1077 which is predominantly a 30mph road recording 584 speeding drivers. 

In June this year there was more than 4,600 speeding offences detected in the county by Suffolk police. 

Officers say 4,606 speeding offences were registered in Suffolk in June, across 172 different locations in the county.

They also said drivers in Barton Mills, Ipswich, Pettistree and Exning were the worst offenders. 

Inspector Gary Miller from the Roads and Armed Policing Team, said: “Speeding has been proven to have devastating consequences.

"Nearly 10% of all collisions where someone was killed or seriously injured, involved drivers travelling too fast for the conditions of the road.

"Speed is one of the ‘fatal four’ offences making you more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a collision, along with drink and drug driving, driving without a seatbelt and driving whilst using a mobile phone.

“Speed limits are in place for everyone’s safety so we would always urge motorists to drive with care, caution and considerately.”
