A new artisan store has opened their doors in the heart of a Suffolk marketplace.

Market Place Artisan Store is now open in Halesworth, run by Anne Hadingham and her daughter, Caroline Hazell.

The new shop offers a place for local artists to showcase their art and crafts, with 90pc of the shop’s contributors coming from Norfolk and Suffolk.

From ceramics to glassmakers to jewellery pieces, owner Ms Hadingham, from Wortwell, said: “There’s something for everybody.”

“We are astounded by the amount of talent,” she added.

The shop is located in Market Place, off Chediston Street, in the building which was formerly known as Market Place Wine Shop.

The pair decided to keep the design of the Market Place Wine Shop sign, the business that run by Alexander Carr in the same building for 45 years.

Ms Hadingham said their decision to maintain the same style has received “mixed opinions” but said that Caroline and herself felt it is “a nod to what it has been for the last 45 years”.

The Wine Shop closed in January this year.

Ms Hadingham says the response since announcing their opening three months ago has been “overwhelming.”

“Everyone has been so kind and welcoming.

“We are very happy with opening day, and we hope it continues,” she added.

The inspiration for the shop came from her daughter, Caroline.

As an artist herself based in Perth, Australia, Ms Hadingham said: “We wanted to bring her art to a store in England.”

Stockists that can be spotted in the store include Angela Humphrey Designs, Jane Bygrave Studio Cermaics, Lellibelle, and House of Restorations.
