Beccles is set to host an array of Heritage Open Day events, offering tours, talks and activities for children.

Beginning from Friday, September 6, locals and visitors will have a chance to immerse themselves in the town's history.

Fascinating events will encompass a guided walk along Ballygate, and tours of the plaques on historic buildings.

Known landmarks such as Hungate Church, St Benet’s Minister and St Michael’s Church will be open for curious visitors.

At St Michael's, visitors will get the chance to uncover stories behind some monuments.

Town Councillor and local historian Barry Darch said: "Heritage Open Days are a great opportunity for everyone to explore history at a local level.

"I’m very grateful to the individuals and organisations who are providing the activities to help us celebrate the fine heritage of our town.

"It’s a long time since Beccles took part in this national scheme which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – and I hope that HODs will become an annual event for us."
