A popular Suffolk ice cream and dessert parlour has begun to grow its empire as it branches out to another shop in the county.

Gelato & Sorbetto is a family-run business managed by Ian and Carla Smith and is based in Bungay's Buttercross.

They offer a range of ice cream, gelato and other sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

After opening in May last year, the ice cream parlour has bloomed with “some regulars getting their ice creams every day”.

Earlier this year, the couple invested £40,000 into the business to make their dreams come true by making their own authentic gelato and ice cream.

They have now announced they are opening a new store on the high street in Saxmundham.

Mrs Smith says: “We have worked extremely hard to make this possible. Sometimes I am working seven days a week, 14 hours a day.”

“We have customers that travel from Ipswich or Norwich, and occasionally people visiting from abroad.”

“Customers have been asking us to open in different towns, so we had a look at different locations, but Saxmundham worked out best for us.”

The new shop will be like the Bungay parlour, and Mrs Smith wants to ease any customers’ fears.

She said “The Bungay shop will not be going anywhere and will remain open seven days a week”.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive after the announcement, as “everyone seems to be really pleased,” Mrs Smith added.

Mrs Smith said: “It’s really nice to be able to bring what we’ve done somewhere else.”

The couple hope to open the shop on August 21.

Mrs Smith added: “We say thank you to everyone that has been supporting the business since we opened, whether you come in once a month or every week.”
