People in Beccles are getting ready for the town's largest yearly event, the Beccles Carnival, on August 17.

The festivities begin at the Beccles Quay events arena, Fen Lane, at 1pm and include a fun dog show, sponsored by various canine food brands, including Cobby dog, Vitalin, Gilbertson & Page, Heather’s Hairee Hounds, and Purina.

Carnival attendees can also look forward to the Beccles Baby competition, the under 17’s Beccles Got Talent final, sponsored by Beccles Caxton Club, and a variety of other entertainment taking place throughout the afternoon.

'Beccles Quay Rocks', a live music event, returns in the evening from 6pm on the same day.

Additional performances Sunday include talented X Factor 2017 contestant Leon Mallet, also known as the "East Anglian Boy" and Wrong Jovi, a popular UK Bon Jovi tribute band.

The night's entertainment concludes with the over 18’s Beccles Got Talent final, sponsored by Hales Group.

Carnival arrivals can relax with a picnic site-side.

Before the carnival procession on Sunday, August 18, Simply Mustang UK will showcase 20 of their sports cars on the route.

The parade will proceed from Roy's of Beccles Car Park at 1pm with Carnival Queen Cheyenne Wilson, Princesses Violet and Daisy, and Prince Elijah leading.

But organising the carnival this year has not been an easy feat.

Beccles Carnival co-ordinator Annette said: "Financially, this year has been particularly difficult to raise funds and we have really struggled to get the money we need to put on the carnival this year.

"I cannot emphasise enough that as much as we love all the pennies and tuppences you save all year to put in the buckets on the parade route, if everyone watching can put in 10p we can continue to offer everything we do."
