A town is set to host a maiden folk festival, featuring music, dance, workshops, food and drink.

During the three-day Bungay Folk Festival, the town will host a series of events including live music, workshops and masterclasses run by folk musicians, in what has been described by organisers Pete and Vicky Sewell as a celebration of folk culture.

Top-billing artists include acclaimed local acts such as Sam Kelly and Jamie Francis, Solana and The Shackleton Trio.

A variety of musical styles will be represented over the weekend.

Performers range from medieval-inspired Pearl in the Egg, to the dark folk outfit The Punch House Band, and the Brazilian percussive traditional music group Forro Fogoso.

The festival's finale will be a French Bal, performed by well-known French band Xim.

The event will be held at Bungay Community Centre.

Support for the event comes from East Suffolk Council, Bungay Business and Enterprise Association (BEBA), and Bungay Town Council.

Workshops throughout Saturday will be available around the town, covering a range of topics such as songwriting, banjo playing, storytelling and more.

While there will be a small £5 charge for these sessions, a majority of the festival will be free of charge, with tickets only required for a select few events.

As part of the festival, Sunday includes a family ceilidh and a folk picnic at Castle Bailey.

The Big Sky Choir from Norwich will perform in St Mary's Church on Saturday, followed by Will Power with a classical slant on folk tunes.

The festival's organisers are also hosting a Summer School for young musicians aged 14-18 from local schools or living in the area.

This two-day event will see respected musicians Finn Collinson and Heather Moss giving expert tutelage to budding folk artists ahead of the festival itself.
