Beccles War Memorial Hospital celebrated its biggest fete in years, marking a century since  the site's establishment.

The weekend's event saw an impressive turnout, thanks to the very warm weather.

Large numbers of people enjoyed entertainment from the Sir John Leman School Jazz Band and the Rogues Shanty Chorus.

Dance performances by students from the June Glennie School of Dance were well-received, also drawing in large crowds.

The Beccles Rotary Club, which organised the event, was happy with the outcome and expressed gratitude to all participants.

Mayor Colin Hill opened the festivities, alongside the Beccles Carnival Ambassadors, while Beccles Rotary president Toni Watkins-Burton was also present.

The team also enlisted support for setting up and operating the fete from Helping Hands and CC Betts & Sons for transport.

Numerous organisations chipped in, contributing their hard work and generosity to the event.

The Beccles Inner Wheel Club supplied refreshments.

The fete featured a wide variety of items for sale or to win, courtesy of nearby organisations, and an array of games for both adults and children.

The event also brought in considerable proceeds through the raffle.

Winners who were not present at the event will be contacted.

The funds generated will be distributed among the League of Friends of the Hospital and other medically-related local charities.

Final calculations are pending, but the Rotary club expects the total contribution to be substantial.

A spokesman for the Rotary club said: “Beccles Rotary club has promoted the fete for very many years, but this year, in the centenary of the hospital, it was special.
