Bungay Rotary Club has been busy in recent weeks collecting medical items that cannot be re-used by the National Health Service.
Wheelchairs, crutches, upright walkers and walking frames no longer needed by patients prove invaluable to people in other countries, and this collection will be shipped to the Ukraine, where the items will aid the recovery of soldiers and civilians injured in the war with Russia.
Richard Cundy, who has organised the collection for the club, said it was the second collection of disability aids which it had carried out, the first one being in 2022.
“They will go to a local collection point at Saffron Walden Rotary Club, before going on to the Physionet Charity which is based in Yorkshire.
"The charity will refurbish them and make them ready for shipment to various parts of the world where they are most needed; in this case they will be shipped to Ukraine,” he said.
He added he was grateful to those who had donated the items – over 30 have been gathered in this latest collection, which will be the last the Bungay club will carry out for the time being.
