Police have said they are 'concentrating' their search for a missing Beccles man in the town's river area more than a week after he was last seen.

Brian Horide, 80, was last seen between 10.45am and 11.15am on Tuesday, 21 May in the Northgate area of Beccles.

But on Friday of last week, police told the family that they found new CCTV footage of him walking at the Beccles Quay on the same day.

Eight days have passed and the father of three - two sons and one daughter - still has not been found.

Now Suffolk Police have issued a statement that they are focussing on the Beccles Quay area.

A Suffolk police spokesman: "Police are continuing to search for missing person Brian Horide and concentrating efforts around Beccles Quay using specialist search officers and equipment.

"This includes working with partners and the use of boats in the area. Police continue to appeal to the public for any information."

Mr Horide's son, Mark, and his family have been searching for their loved one and thanked the police for their efforts as the force continues to appeal for information.

A long-term friend of Mr Horide, Peter Boardman, 90, said he and his wife Janet met him and his wife Rosemary at a dance more than 60 years ago.

He expressed concern for the welfare of his friend.

Mr Boardman, 90, said: "We used to go on holiday together for many years, albeit many years ago.

"Brian and I used to go walking and climbing in the mountains while our partners would sunbathe on the beach, they were some of the best years of my life.

"I heard the news a few days ago because I live at Walton-on-the-Naze
now and I couldn't quite believe it.

"Both me and Janet are worried sick for him and his family and we are praying for a positive outcome."
