The former mayor of a town in Wales has been selected as Labour's parliamentary candidate for South Norfolk.

Ben Goldsborough has been picked by Labour to try to win a constituency which has been in Conservative hands since 1950.

Originally from Norfolk, Mr Goldsborough recently finished a spell as mayor of the town of Flint, in north Wales, where he was a member of the town council.

He said: "I’m thrilled to be chosen to stand for Labour in South Norfolk. I grew up here and my values are shaped by our fantastic communities.

“I think it is important that the people of Loddon and Wymondham have an opportunity to vote for a Labour candidate and to support the policies that will transform the local area and Britain."

Conservative MP Richard Bacon, who was first elected in South Norfolk in 2001, is not seeking re-election.

Other candidates in the constituency are Chris Brown (Liberal Democrats), Jason Maguire (Social Democratic Party), Prof Catherine Rowett (Green Party) and Poppy Simister-Thomas (Conservative).
