Emergency repairs to cover up a sinkhole more than a metre deep have been completed.
The hole emerged in Bungay on St John's Road earlier in the week and Suffolk Highways now have closed and filled it.
A source has told this newspaper that the pothole was more than a metre deep and workmen put a red and white traffic cone in it to show its depth.
Pipework beneath the road is understood to have caused the hole to appear.
It is believed Anglian Water and Suffolk Highways are in disagreement over what caused the hole.
Despite their dispute, Suffolk Highways have now filled the hole - but a source said the hole will reappear again as the pipes in the same spot will damage the road again.

A Suffolk Highways spokeswoman said: “Suffolk Highways received a report of a large pothole on St John’s Road, Bungay and attended the site to undertake temporary repairs on the same day (Tuesday 23 April) to make the road safe for highway users.
"A crew returned today (Wednesday 1 May) to carry out a permanent repair of the defect.
"We would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst works were undertaken.”
