Well-known Norwich City fan Nathan West has won the club’s fan of the season award after he raised more than £60,000 for charity.
West, known widely as ‘Westy’, received abuse from online trolls after a pre-match video interview with the Pink Un ahead of the Canaries’ 3-1 win over Millwall in August.
The wider football fan community rallied around Westy in response to this, however, offering him support and praise as the video gained traction on social media.
That resulted in his asking for donations for a 10k run he was doing to raise money for cancer charity MacMillan, with a total nearing £61,000 eventually raised.
Norwich head coach David Wagner surprised him with the Michelle Dack fan of the season trophy earlier this week before first-team players Kenny McLean and Jonathan Rowe broke the news of a trip to the Canary Islands for five days.
Westy was also given a VIP experience at Wembley as England beat Italy 3-1 back in October, named the community hero for City’s meeting with Leeds United in the same month and featured on national radio programmes, while the original video gained more than 30million views.
