People living in parts of the Broads have been told to "act now" with flooding expected due to high tides.

Flooding of homes and businesses is likely from 8.30pm this evening, and into the early hours of tomorrow morning. 

Those in the area have been urged to "stay safe, and be prepared with a flood kit of essential items, should you need to evacuate your home”.

Information about the warnings has been posted on the official gov.uk website.

Areas most at risk includes homes along the tidal River Waveney, including St Olaves, Somerleyton, Burgh St Peter, Oulton Broad and Beccles.

Properties in areas along the tidal River Yare at risk include Cantley, Brundall and Reedham.

Roads near the River Waveney which are likely to be affected include Beccles Road at St Olaves, Geldeston Lock Lane, Gillingham Dam and Fen Lane in Beccles.

Near the River Yare, routes affected include Ferry Road in Reedham, the A47 and the railway line between Reedham and Brundall.

The floods are due to high tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth which is currently restricting drainage out to sea at low tide via the Broads river system.

The high spring tides are due to peak on Tuesday into Wednesday and are expected to fall away from Thursday onwards, allowing the rivers to drain out to sea at low tide as normal.
