Fourth crash at Loddon roundabout sparks fresh safety calls

Police were called to the A146 Loddon roundabout at 10.14pm yesterday following a single-vehicle incident - coming just days after a car flipped onto its side at the same site. 

The issue has prompted Kay Mason Billig, leader of Norfolk County Council and a Loddon district councillor, to investigate the cause of the "worsening situation".

She said: "This roundabout has been open for over two years and we have not had any major incidents until recently.

"When the signs on the roundabout were damaged after the first crash, I asked highways to install some temporary ones, as new signage can take six weeks to arrive and new permanent signage has been ordered.

"Highways engineers immediately put temporary road signs up but there were a further two incidents at the roundabout shortly afterwards.

"I have contacted the police to find out if the drivers of those vehicles have been interviewed and if there is a common theme as to why they left the road, I am awaiting a response.

"I have also asked highways to look again at the signage on the roundabout and the approach, to see if we can improve this from a safety perspective."

The existing roundabout, which connects the A146 Norwich Road, Mundham Road and George Lane, replaced a staggered four-way junction in early 2022.
