Framlingham and Hadleigh, Suffolk popular for buyers in 2024

Savills has revealed the areas which are likely to be on people's radar and are worth keeping an eye on next year. 

Katy Stephenson, associate director in the residential sales team at Savills, believes Hadleigh is one place that is likely to be popular.

“Somewhat surprisingly it’s not always on people’s radar,” she said.

"However it’s a lovely market town with a wealth of character, lots of attractive properties and some beautiful surrounding countryside.

"English poet John Betjeman once described Hadleigh as one of the most perfect small towns in England, with ‘that unassuming beauty of East Anglia, which changes to glory in sunlight’.

"It has a bustling high street with a comprehensive selection of local shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, there’s a good range of schools and there’s plenty to do."

Bury St Edmunds was also recommended by Savills. 

"There is also a large range of family housing to suit all tastes, some very good schools and  a wide variety of independent boutique retailers, cafes and restaurants, all surrounded by some stunning countryside.

"There is also plenty to do – enjoying a stroll around the Abbey Gardens or watching a show at the Theatre Royal are two personal favourites – but you are also well connected to other areas, with good access to the likes of Cambridge, Newmarket and Ipswich.”

Alexander McNab said Framlingham was on a lot of buyers' wish list. 

He said: "It’s very popular with families and has several well respected schools  including Framlingham College and Thomas Mills High School. 

“There are some excellent restaurants – the Italian Watson and Walpole, which is in both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide, is one of my favourites. Leo’s Deli and Hall Farm butchers are also brilliant, as is the twice weekly market. The Common Room and The Dancing Goat are fabulous cafes, while The Crown and The Station are two very good pubs."

Mr McNab said Halesworth was a good option for buyers who were looking for a different option. 

“If you’re searching for somewhere away from the usual hotspots then Halesworth and surrounding villages are an excellent alternative,” he added. 

“It’s relatively more affordable when compared to other market towns, yet you’re still on the edge of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths, the ever popular destinations of Southwold and Walberswick are not too far away and there is a good range of independent retailers on the high street."
