Flood alerts issued for Debenham and Beccles in Suffolk

The Environment Agency issues a flood alert when there is a possibility of flooding in an area, mostly caused by rising river levels.

Yesterday, Monday, December 11, flood alerts were issued for areas around the Rivers Blyth and Walpole, as well as the Chediston, Bramfield and Wrentham watercourses.

These have now been removed, but alerts remain in place for the Rivers Waveney, Dove, Deben and Lark.

After river levels were monitored before 9am today, alerts were issued as some minor flooding to low-lying land, roads and riverside areas seems likely.

“River levels are beginning to drop, but will remain responsive to further rainfall,” warns the Environment Agency.

“Take care on riverside footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.”

Towns such as Wickham Market and Debenham could be affected by any flooding, as well as Eye and Beccles.

The Environment Agency will reassess the situation tomorrow but, will less rain forecast during the day, it is likely that the situation will not escalate.
