A 14-year-old animal lover from Shipmeadow climbed Mount Snowdon raising more than £1,000 for a cause close to her heart.

Amelia Kennard climbed Wales' tallest mountain in aid of the Happily Ever After animal refuge in Shipmeadow. 

The 14-year-old decided to tackle the task of raising funds for the organisation while it currently attempts to obtain charity status.

"Amelia looked at the accommodation, how much everything would cost and to keep it within budget, routes to get to both Wales and what paths would be best to climb alongside what is needed to take on our climb.

"She also set up a GoFundme page and raised £1,300."

Ms Kennard added: "Amelia was a trooper and took it in her stride.

"She constantly encouraged me and my friends to keep going when we found it tough.

"Amelia climbed Snowdon in 3 hours and 40 minutes with the greatest feeling of achievement."
