Plans are gathering pace for a town's traditional carnival which dates back to the pre-First World War era and is taking place later this month.

Beccles Carnival is always held on the third weekend of August and this month it falls on the Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 weekend at Beccles Quay.

Organisers say over the weekend there is a great programme of events for the whole family to enjoy.

The Saturday starts at 1pm with various entertainment for the family, including a fun dog show, dog agility display and a chance to meet Max the giant robot or have a selfie with Barbie.

Then there is live music in the evening with Beccles Quay Rocks! when bands hit the stage for the finale of Beccles Battle of the Bands.

Then the Sunday sees the traditional parade, starting its route at 1pm from Gosford Road. It passes through Station Road, Market Street, into Saltgate and Northgate and finishes at the quay's Fen Lane.

Residents are encouraged to donate to the carnival parade buckets along the route.

The carnival is followed by more family fun at the quay.

The quay is open on the Saturday from 1pm to 10.30pm and on the Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.

Entry to the carnival at Beccles Quay is £2 per adult, accompanied children £1, and under fives free both days.

Organisers say the aim of the carnival is to "bring the community together, attract visitors, and have an affordable family event Beccles can be proud of".
