A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was killed in a crash in a north Suffolk town.
Officers were called to the crash involving a blue Volkswagen Transporter and a pedestrian on the B1062, Bungay Road, at 8.50pm on Thursday.
Paramedics were also called to the scene but the pedestrian - a man aged in his 60s - was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 41-year-old man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
He was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
The B1062 was closed while emergency services attended the collision and a scene investigation was carried out. The road reopened at approximately 2.30am.
Suffolk County Councillor for Beccles Caroline Topping said she sends her heartfelt condolences to the family of the man who died in the crash.
"Nobody wants a loved one to go out and not come, especially under these circumstances," she added.
"My heart goes out to the family and friends of the gentlemen.
"Without actually knowing exactly where on the road it happened on the road and the weather conditions at the time, as a Suffolk County Councillor I cannot comment on whether the road conditions played any part.
"I am totally against anybody getting behind the wheel and driving in a condition that could cause a fatality."
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information is being asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, quoting reference: 37/73369/22.
