Waveney’s MP said he “will not be watching” I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here after it was confirmed former Health Secretary Matt Hancock will be on the show.
Peter Aldous, who says he has “never watched the show”, says he is instead thinking about the forthcoming budget announcement.
The Conservative MP said that it was “right” for Mr Hancock’s whip to be withdrawn.
Mr Aldous said: “I do not think it appropriate. I don’t understand how he can be there for the people he represents while he is in the jungle, but ultimately that is for him to answer.
“From my perspective, it is certainly not something that I would be doing.
“The Conservative party in reaction, have suspended him from the party, which I believe is the correct decision.
“I will not be watching, instead working late before catching the train home.
“My view, and among other Conservative party members, is total focus on next week’s fiscal announcement.
“All roads lead to Westminster for next Thursday, not an exotic jungle with fellow celebrities in Australia,” the Waveney MP said.
The government will announce its autumn financial statement on November 17, and Mr Aldous warns the country is in the most perilous economic circumstances since the Wall Street Crash.
He said: “I think where we stand now, in economic trouble is very similar to that of the stock market crash in 1929.
“The points I have made emphasised the importance of reinstating the triple lock on pensions, I have emphasised the importance of uplifting benefits in line with inflation also emphasised the importance of investment in skills.
“I have in mind the job opportunities in the energy sector in our area, with offshore winds and Sizewell.
“Also continuing to invest in infrastructure, while I have also highlighted the NHS dentistry crisis in our area, but also across the country, and how this must be addressed.”
