BUNGAY Town Ladies had their first-ever game in the Women's FA Cup against a very strong and experienced Woodbridge Town.
The latter play in the Eastern Counties Premier League, two leagues higher than Bungay with mainly county players and one international in their squad and this proved too much for an inexperienced Bungay side, losing 9-0.
Bungay, however, can take some positives from this game with the defence working more as a unit frequently catching the Woodbridge forwards offside plus the work rate and attitude of the team as they kept going throughout taking the game to Woodbridge and had opportunities to score against their well-drilled opponents and excellent goalkeeper.
Players of note would be Caz Wright and Lauren Purling who had a real and somewhat bruising battle on their hands contending with the physical play of the Woodbridge forwards with Caz playing one of her best games, also Emily Leach battling away up front, with Lauren Huggins showing up well making her debut for the team, others of note being Annie, Mary, Rachael and Leo. The team sprit of the side never failed and an experience like this will be good for the future development of this young team. Bungay's next match is at home to Thorpe on Sunday 2pm.
